Read My Blog.

Name - Melissa Wheatley

Age - 30 something

Major - Psychology

Hometown - New Salibury, Indiana

High School - New Albany High School

Other colleges - none...the school of life. :o)

Hobbies - Unfortunately I have little time for hobbies these days but I love to scrapbook photos of my four children whenever I get the chance.

Interests - Strangely I have developed a passion for research. I want to know WHY things happen the way that they do (or the closest approximation). I am very active on campus in research with Dr Wille on family dynamics and have presented my research on parental stress (the area I know most about-lol) at 3 national conferences which have taken me all over the United States. I am now applying to graduate schools where I hope to work towards my PhD (yes, I DID say I'm 30 something!) and become a Clinical Neuropsychologist. In layman's terms, this is someone who diagnoses and treats disorders of the brain and the behavioral affects of these disorders. I want to ultimately work with children with developmental disabilities and their families.

Extra-Curricular activities - Yes, I find time for extra-curricular activities! I'm the President of the IUS chapter of Psi Chi (the national honor's society of psychology) and the Psychology Club, student representative on the Orientation Coordinating Committee, student representative on the Internship Advisory Board, and I have been a student leader at new student orientations for the past 2 years. Oh yeah, and I also volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House.

Embarrassing Moment - Hhhmmm....I need to think about this one. I would say one wintery day when I was 3 months pregnant and my husband's truck ran out of gas. We were crossing a few lanes of highway to go make a phone call and I tripped and slid across two lanes on my belly all the while never spilling a drop of the hot chocolate in my hand....I had priorities daggone it (and the baby was okay)!

Favorite IUS memory - There are truly so many. I was a stay at home mom for 12 years. Since my return to college I have gained so much renewed confidence in myself. One favorite memory was being informed that I was nominated for outstanding student of the year in 2006, and another was receiving the Chancellors' Scholar Scholarship in 2006.
