Business Week: Best Part-Time M.B.A.

Indiana University Southeast's MBA Program Receives Regional and National Ranking by BusinessWeek

In its November 12 issue, BusinessWeek magazine formally announced its inaugural Part-Time MBA Program Rankings for all AACSB accredited programs in the country. IU Southeast's MBA program ranked 18th in the nation and ranked 3rd in the Midwest. IU Southeast was the highest ranked public school in the Midwest and was the only school in the Greater Louisville area to have achieved a national ranking.

In addition, the BusinessWeek survey revealed other areas of distinction including ranking 6th in the nation in student satisfaction, 3rd in the nation in percentage of tenured faculty teaching in the program, and 2nd in the nation for small classes. Finally the IU Southeast Part-Time MBA program received the highest possible scores of "A +" for teaching quality and curriculum.

"Although achieving high visibility in rankings is not an explicit goal of our school, we are nonetheless very pleased to be recognized in this manner. This elite ranking among the best business schools in the country such as UCLA, USC, The University of Chicago, and Loyola University is an endorsement of the quality of our faculty and students and attests to the efforts that have been put forth to create a rigorous yet flexible MBA program," said IU Southeast Business School Dean Jay White. "Being recognized as the top-ranked Part-Time Professional MBA program in Indiana and the Kentuckiana region is especially exciting when you consider the attention to detail with which BusinessWeek used in compiling its rankings."

The BusinessWeek rankings are based primarily on three measures. First, a survey sent to 9,274 MBA students measured student satisfaction. Second, an academic quality score was developed using six equally weighted measures: average GMAT score, average work experience, the percentage of all teachers in the part-time MBA program who are tenured, average class size in core business classes, the number of business electives available to part-time MBA students, and the programs completion rate. Third, post-MBA outcomes were indicated by the percentage of survey respondents who said their program was "completely" responsible for them achieving their goals.

"These rankings are an outstanding external validation of the quality of an IU Southeast graduate business degree," said Paul Pittman, Director of IU Southeast Graduate Business Programs. "Pursuing an MBA is a major commitment and investment & this ranking is confirmation that that our part-time MBA program meets the needs of busy working professionals while maintaining high academic standards. I strongly encourage anyone that is researching business schools to speak with some of our alumni and current students for first-hand accounts of the quality of our program."

The IU Southeast School of Business also offers a Masters of Science in Strategic Finance (MSSF). Like our nationally-ranked Part-Time MBA program, the MSSF was designed for working professionals, offers leading-edge, practical knowledge, and allows the flexibility to pursue a challenging degree while balancing work and personal goals. A dual MBA/MSSF option is also offered and courses are available both at our main campus in New Albany and our Graduate Center located just minutes from downtown Louisville.
