This Year's Honorees
James P. Keith
Jim Keith, of Jeffersonville, Ind., is the Executive Director of the Clark-Floyd Counties Convention and Tourism Bureau, an organization with a mission to highlight Southern Indiana as a tourist destination by attracting visitors who contribute to the economic and social sides of the tourism industry.
He has been the executive director for nearly three decades, originally taking over the position in 1981. During his time as director, he spearheaded the successful “Sunny Side of Louisville” campaign. Prior to becoming executive director, he was a board member and treasurer of the organization.
Jim is an active member of the Southern Indiana community, serving as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church and a 40-year member and past president of the Jeffersonville Rotary Club, and working with Leadership Southern Indiana. He is also involved with the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center, Greenway Commission, Ohio River Scenic Byway, and Riverfront Development.
Jim is the chairman of the Indiana Lewis and Clark Commission/Foundation, which promotes the state’s involvement in the Lewis and Clark story and supports IU Southeast’s Lewis and Clark Summer Teachers’ Institute training.
Before joining the Tourism Bureau, Jim operated Keith Clothing, a family-owned business located in the Youngstown Shopping Center throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
Lillian Yeager
Lillian Yeager’s healing touch can be felt across southern Indiana and greater Louisville. Lillian was Dean of the School of Nursing at IU Southeast from 2002 to 2006. She joined the faculty in 1973 as an assistant professor. Her leadership and vision contributed to the extraordinary growth in the nursing program, making it one of the most distinguished nursing programs in the area. She was a recipient of countless awards and honors for her service, and she educated thousands of nurses.
Lillian received an undergraduate degree in nursing from Tuskegee University, but she was barred from pursuing a graduate degree in the South due to her race. Lillian, of course, would not stand still; she relocated to Detroit to pursue her dream. She earned a master’s degree in medical-surgical nursing education from Wayne State University. She later graduated with a doctorate in education leadership from Spalding University.
When you visit any of our area hospitals, it is likely that you will be cared for by a nurse who owes much of her or his educational success to Lillian’s perseverance. In addition to her 23-year commitment to the nursing students at IU Southeast, Lillian was a dedicated mentor and community leader with a passion for her community and the field of nursing.
Lillian was active on various boards and committees including the Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital, Frazier Rehab Institute, Floyd Memorial Hospital’s Nursing Department, Home of the Innocents, and KYANNA Black Nurses Association. She also volunteered for Ovarian Awareness of Kentucky and the Friends for Life organization.
Lillian passed away in 2006 after battling ovarian cancer. She is dearly missed.
