Undergraduate
Candidates are strongly encouraged to consult with an advisor before registering at IU Southeast. Advisors will review academic requirements, discuss prospective courses, and consider how those courses fit into your overall academic plan. They may also discuss the relationship between academic plans and prospective careers. You should take advantage of group advising sessions scheduled before registration.
"Undecided" students are advised in ACES: the Advising Center for Exploratory Students (US 207, 812/941.2243).
"Pre-Education" majors (admitted to the University, but not yet admitted to an SOE program) are advised in the School of Education by our School Advisor, Ms Vicki Prince, assisted by Mr Jim Clements. Call 812/941.2386 or e-mail EDUADVIS@ius.edu for an appointment. ("Pre-Secondary" see below.)
Elementary Education candidates admitted to the undergraduate program may find their assigned advisor at https://www.ius.edu/education/elementary/advising.cfm. (SOE faculty contact information at http://www.ius.edu/education/Faculty.cfm.) Elementary candidates with TRANSFER credits outside of IU Southeast are advised by Dr Barbara Thompson-Book: 812/941.2563, bacthomp@ius.edu.
Secondary Education candidates admitted to the program are advised by their subject area coordinator: http://www.ius.edu/Education/secondary/advising.cfm. In addition, "pre-Secondary" candidates with at least 12 earned credit hours, a GPA of at least 2.75, and a "C" or better in ENG-W 131 are also advised by subject area coordinators. Special Education candidates admitted to the program are advised by coordinator Dr Cathy Shea (HH 0010, cshea@ius.edu, 812/941.2466).
Graduate
Interested candidates are expected to attend an Advising and Information Session. Session dates can be found by clicking here. Graduate candidates who have been admitted can be advised by program advisors; candidates also have assigned faculty advisors for the Summative Decision Point writings.
