Curriculum

The Elementary Education Program requires 130 semester hours of coursework. Within these hours are approximately 55 semester hours of professional education courses, many requiring a field experience in community K-12 schools. After a candidate applies for and is admitted into the Program, his/her records are formally transferred to the School of Education and a faculty advisor is assigned.

Candidates may enroll in Block 1 coursework prior to acceptance into the Elementary Education Program.  (NOTE: enrollment in Block 1 coursework does not imply or guarantee admission to the Program.)  For information regarding application to the Program, please see the "Admissions Requirements" link to the left.

Upon admission to the Program, candidates complete the remaining blocks in sequence, each described below.  Additionally, there are professional education courses and experiences that may be taken at any time along with the block courses.  Also, some of the blocks have specific prerequisites. These are all described below.

For a full listing of course options, including those below and general education requirements, you can download a course check sheet. (Note: This file is in PDF format. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it.)
