Computer Education License

Computer Education licensure is available at IU Southeast as an addition to an existing teaching license. It is an opportunity for candidates to become instructional leaders in the field of educational technology. Applicants must successfully complete R531 prior to applying to the Computer License Program.

Applying to the Computer Education License Program 

  1. Attend a mandatory advising session.
  2. Complete the online Application:  https://onestart.iu.edu/sisad-prd/p/Guest.do?methodToCall=start&inst=IUSEA&career=GRAD  
  3. Submission of application requires $40 application fee. ***Please note that persons who have previously paid an application fee for an IU Southeast graduate program need not pay another application fee.  Should one wish to investigate whether this applies to her/him, please contact our School’s Records Specialist at mwild@ius.edu or 812/941.2388.  
  4. Submit transcripts from all colleges attended (unless from an IU School) to the address provided below. Legible, unofficial copies are adequate.  If transcripts are currently on file in the School of Education, you do not need to re-submit them.  Submit official transcripts for course work applicable to the program. 
  5. Submit a copy of current teaching license.  A scanned copy of license will be accepted if applicant prefers to email it directly to the Records Specialist. If current copy of license is on file with the School of Education, you do not need to re-submit another copy.

General Information

Candidates are responsible for keeping abreast of program changes and completing needed courses and other requirements. School of Education Computer Licensure courses are offered on a rotating basis over the course of four semesters. Candidates are responsible for adjusting their personal schedules to complete requirements. Use of the Internet to complete some course work and maintain communication between candidates and program faculty is expected. When assigned to field work, candidates are responsible for following the placement school’s background check policy.For candidates admitted after 7/15/2011 who do not earn credit for course work at IU Southeast during any one-year period will be required to meet new requirements in effect when they resume their course work at IU Southeast. Candidates with a two-year gap in coursework must meet with an advisor and reapply for admission.

Program Expectations

Candidates will complete summative decision points in their Computer Licensure program. At each point, candidates’ performance will be assessed, and their acceptance, continuation, or completion of the program judged. A candidate’s continuation status may be re-evaluated at points other than summative decision points if significant difficulties are noted. Good standing in the program requires satisfying the following conditions:

Program faculty will judge applicability of previous course work to program requirements. Age of courses and relevant teaching experience will be evaluated. All Computer Licensure courses must be completed within a 5 year window.
