Admission to the major occurs in steps. The first step is acceptance into IU Southeast. Students can apply online for admission to IUS.
In a candidates' second or third semester at IU Southeast, they apply for admission to an Elementary/Special Education student cohort group. Candidates must have at least a 2.5 overall GPA, complete certain general education courses, and pass the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST; Praxis I: Reading - 176; Writing - 172; Math - 175) to be admitted; alternatives to the Praxis 1 are available--speak with an advisor. (Candidates who completed F 200 or its equivalent at another institution must acquire and send to their instructor a "Field Placement Assessment" form from the School of Education.)
Until accepted into a cohort, candidates are advised by our School's professional advisor, Mrs Vicki Prince; call 812/941.2386 for an appointment. Upon acceptance into the program, a program advisor is assigned. Firm declaration of the major is expected during the second semester in the cohort group.
