Secondary Program Admissions Requirements

Eligible participants include those who have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education, with a major in the same subject area in which the candidates are seeking licensure. (IU Southeast has secondary licensure programs in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.) In addition, the candidates must have a grade point average of three (3.00) on a four (4.00) point scale, both in the major and overall. Alternately, candidates may qualify if they have a grade point average of at least two and fifty hundredths (2.50) on a four (4.00) point scale (both in the major and overall in the area they intend to teach), and if they also have five years of related professional experience.  A graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the subject area for which licensure is sought may also qualify one for admission.

Candidates should plan to attend a required group advising session. To apply for the ST2T cohort program, candidates submit an application that collectively represents the background interests, skills, knowledge and dispositions. Applicants are encouraged to research and base their application on the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) Standards (PDF). Included in this case should be the following:

  1. T2T application (Please request that a copy be mailed to you by e-mailing soet2t@ius.edu.);
  2. A cover letter (approximately two pages) in which you outline your goals, articulate your reasons for pursuing this field of study in general and this program in particular, and describe the strengths and experiences that make you a good candidate for this program;
  3. Official score reports from PRAXIS I and PRAXIS 2, indicating you have passed these tests (see www.ets.org/praxis for details) (NOTE: IN accepts all passing Praxis scores for licensing; KY allows only scores no more than five years old);
  4. A detailed resume;
  5. Official copies of past college or university transcripts;
  6. Two letters of recommendation are required; one should focus on your academic qualifications, and the other should be from someone who can comment on your abilities in some professional capacity.
  7. Payment of application fee in the form of a personal check ($35 application fee, payable to Indiana University Southeast).

Application deadline for Fall admission is June 1 and for Spring admission is October 15.  The availability of the program for a cohort group depends on sufficient enrollment.
