Education Home > Secondary Education Program Welcome to the Secondary Education Program
Our programs are designed to prepare candidates for initial teacher licensing in both Indiana and in Kentucky. The Secondary Education Program offers initial teacher licensing at the middle school, junior high school, and high school settings in:
In addition to the above, you may also earn a teaching minor (NOT the same as an academic minor) in:
NOTE: Kentucky does not grant a license based on teaching minors. All programs are based on the standards set forth by the Indiana Office of Educator Licensing and Development, the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC), and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Candidates may add other teaching areas to one of the four primary areas. The Secondary Program had offered Transition to Teaching, a certification-only program in which degree holders with a major in one of the four main content areas above could earn secondary teacher licensing. As of 6/1/2011, no applications were being accepted to Secondary Transition to Teaching. Attention: Education Candidates Seeking Kentucky LicensureThe Kentucky EPSB is considering a regulation that will impact licensure applicants who complete their coursework at an out-of-state institution. This regulation will require candidates completing licensure requirements at an out-of-state institution to meet that state's licensure requirements, including testing, before applying for a Kentucky license. Candidates must also meet the Kentucky testing requirements. Candidates should continue to check with the IU Southeast license officers and/or the EPSB website for the date that this regulation will take effect. |
