Secondary Program Curriculum

The ST2T is an 18-credit hour program and can be completed in three semesters (no summer courses).

The approach for the ST2T includes support of mentor teachers, integrated professional seminars and field experiences along with education courses. Field experience includes working with master teachers in local schools who serve as mentors.

The schedule for the education courses is presented below.

Semester 1

W200 Microcomputers in Education OR
R531 Computer in Education (3 credit hours),

P516 Adolescent Development (3 credit hours), and

M500 Integrated Professional Seminar (1 credit hour + mentor fee*).

Semester 2

M314 General Methods: Sr High/Jr High/Middle School (3 credit hours),

M464 Methods of Teaching Reading: Sr High/Jr High/Middle School (3 credit hours), and

M500 Integrated Professional Seminar (1 credit hour + mentor fee*).

Semester 3

M441 Methods of Teaching Sr High/Jr High/Middle School: Social Studies (3 credit hours) OR
M446 Methods of Teaching Sr High/Jr High/Middle School: Science (3 credit hours) OR
M452 Methods of Teaching Sr High/Jr High/Middle School: Language Arts (3 credit hours) OR
M457 Methods of Teaching Sr High/Jr High/Middle School: Mathematics (3 credit hours),

AND

M500 Integrated Professional Seminar/Student Teaching (1 credit hour + mentor fee*)

*This fee applies to the professional mentor.  Fees are set by the IU Board of Trustees and are subject to change.  Candidates are advised to consult with the appropriate Transition to Teaching coordinator.

Note: The Indiana Office of Educator Licensing and Development has developmental standards for both "Early Adolescent" and "Adolescent and Young Adults"; they will be covered in the course work and field experiences so that candidates will be eligible for an IN teaching license for grades 5-12 (KY: grades 7-12). Course of study will include academic and field experiences with cultural diversity and special needs students. The first M500 will be in a junior high/middle school; the second will be in a high school.
