Elementary Program Overview

Beginning July 2002, the Indiana General Assembly established the Transition to Teaching program. (See Senate Bill 0166 and IPSB Rule 6.) The purpose of the program is the recruitment, retention and training of competent professionals in teacher education. The Transition to Teaching licensing program allows competent professionals holding a bachelor's (or higher) degree to earn an Indiana teaching license through the satisfactory completion of a program of education coursework.

The School of Education has developed a course of study to prepare interested persons, who meet state requirement, to be eligible for a teaching license in Elementary Education. This program parallels the regular elementary education program and the Elementary Education Program Handbook provides detailed information regarding adopted policies and procedures in the areas of program standards, program expectations and due process for all elementary education majors. Copies of the Elementary Education Program Handbook are available upon request.
