Transition to TeachingSchool of Education |
Secondary Program OverviewIndiana University Southeast School of Education (SOE) is offering the Secondary Transition to Teaching (ST2T) alternative teacher preparation program. Candidates will earn their secondary teaching license (middle school/junior high/high school) after three academic semesters at Indiana University Southeast. The Secondary Transition to Teaching (ST2T) program is designed for candidates who have already earned a baccalaureate degree in English, mathematics, science or social studies, and who are interested in becoming secondary teachers in these content areas. The program is designed to meet the IN Office of Educator Licensing and Development content and developmental requirements. Areas of licensing are: Secondary Education (grades 5-12):
Full-time student teaching is a requirement for a teaching license. Few, if any, teachers have full-time teaching schedules in certain subject areas such as sociology, economics, psychology, or human geography. In such cases, student teaching placements may be difficult if not impossible to find. Please contact Dr Lee Morganett (lmorgane@ius.edu) for additional information on the social studies program. Each cohort of ST2T program participants will begin in the spring semester and is expected to complete the program at the end of the following spring semester. The cohort of participants will take a number of classes together. In addition, participants will work with mentor teachers in middle and secondary schools throughout the program. This program does NOT lead to a degree--some coursework may be applicable to a master's degree program. Check with the appropriate Transition to Teaching coordinator. Note: All IU Southeast Transition to Teaching programs are designed to meet the new Indiana Office of Educator Licensing and Development content and developmental requirements and are part-time programs. |
