Three medical plans with dental and prescription options are available to full-time employees. The plans are IU Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) with $900 deductible 2) PPO Plus 3) Blue Preferred Primary. The employee and the University share the premium cost. The plans have four tiers of coverage that include employee, employee and children, employee and spouse, and family. Coverage begins the first day of work.

The employee may use any dentist, however, higher benefits are paid when a CIGNA network dentist is used. There is an annual benefit limit of $1,000 per member.

The University provides term life insurance for full-time employees that is an amount equal to two times the base salary, with a maximum of $50,000. Spouses of employees are insured for $3,000 and dependent children for $1,000.

Additional life insurance for the employee may be purchased through the Supplemental Life Plan in amounts from one to four times the annual salary.

The Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) is the state agency that administers the retirement program provided by IU for appointed clerical/technical/ and service maintenance employees. The University makes periodic contributions on behalf of each member for a retirement income.

Employees may set aside money through payroll deductions for retirement on a before-tax basis. This is a voluntary retirement savings program established by IRS Regulations 403b and 457b.

Eligible individuals may receive an IU subsidy toward the tuition costs associated with attending Indiana University classes.

This is a voluntary plan that exempts certain expenses such as insurance premiums, medical care expenses and dependent care expenses from federal, state, local and Social Security (FICA) taxes. Each part is payroll deducted on a before tax basis, thus lowering the net taxable income.

Employees have the option of purchasing a Long-Term Disability Plan. Rates are based on age, salary and the option selected. After meeting the waiting period, the disability income benefit is payable at 60% of budgeted salary less any social security or pension payments.

With direct bank deposit, your money will be in your account on payday and immediately available. Direct bank deposit is available for use with either an IU Credit Union account or your own banking institution.

Full-time appointed staff earns vacation each pay period at the rate of 4.31 hours for a total of fourteen days a year. Vacation time may be used after receipt of the first paycheck. Additional time is earned after the 6th year, the 13th year, and the 29th year. In addition to vacation, 12 sick days are earned in one year. They are earned each pay period at the rate of 3.7 hours. The hours earned accumulate from year to year.
