Recommended Preparation
An aspiring journalist should be able to work well with people and should have curiosity, persistence and initiative. If you want to "put in your eight hours" and go home, a career in journalism probably isn't for you. Journalism requires dedication, hard work and sometimes unusual hours. It demands an interest in and knowledge of current events. While most of the journalist's skills can be learned during a college career, a journalism major certainly should come to college with a good command of the English language (both written and spoken) and with word processing skills.
