As a service to our patrons, the Indiana University Southeast Library will borrow materials from other libraries.
IUS students, staff, and faculty may order materials through interlibrary loan. Kentuckiana Metroversity students should order interlibrary loan materials from the school they are currently attending. If you are not an IUS student, faculty member, or staff member, please contact your local Public Library for Interlibrary Loan Services.
Request forms are available via the IUS Library website. In compliance with United States copyright laws, patrons must agree with the Copyright Compliance Notice before placing a Periodical Request.
If you have any questions about completing an Interlibrary Loan Request form, please consult the reference librarian on duty.
Undergraduate students may order up to 50 items per semester. There are no restrictions on the number of items ordered by graduate students and faculty.
The IUS Library will first attempt to borrow materials from other IU campuses, for periodical requests. Unfilled article requests and non-IU book requests are sent via an online computer system to Purdue University, Ball State University, Indiana State University, and Notre Dame. If the requests are still unfilled, they will be sent via an online computer system to Kentuckiana Metroversity libraries and to various other libraries throughout the country.
Requests usually take 2 weeks at a minimum to fill. This time period will vary (longer in the Fall and Spring semesters, and shorter in the Summer). The time period also varies depending on where the lending library is located.
Loan periods for books vary. Some other libraries have lending periods of only two weeks. Transit time will be subtracted so the loan period may only be one week in some cases.
All interlibrary loan books are subject to recall at any time by the lending library.
Many libraries will not renew books. Renewals should be requested 3-4 days before the due date. This may be done by calling (812) 941-2487, stopping by the Library Circulation or Reference Desks and filling out a renewal request form, or by e-mail: Interlibrary Loan Department.
Books may only be renewed one time. Books which become overdue may NOT be renewed. No exceptions!
There is no charge to our patrons. Any normal costs are absorbed by the Library. However, if an overdue fine is imposed by the lending library, that charge will be passed on to the patron.
Books must be returned on or before the due date. If an interlibrary loan book becomes more than seven days overdue, a $5.00 fee will be charged plus a fine of 25 cents per day, with no maximum limit.
When materials are received, patrons will be notified by campus e-mail. Notices will be sent to the patron's IUS email address only. Materials may be picked up at the Library circulation desk.
E-mail the Interlibrary Loan Office or contact by phone at (812) 941-2487, if you wish to cancel an Interlibrary Loan Request.
