Ann Glazer Niren (music history and literature) has taught piano, music appreciation, music fundamentals, and humanities while at Indiana University Southeast. Currently, she teaches the four upper-level music history courses for music majors. In 1998, she was the recipient of an I U Southeast Teaching Excellence Recognition Award and in 2005, she won the IUS Distinguished Teaching Award for part-time faculty. She regularly attends seminars to keep abreast of recent research in music history and teaching in general. In addition, she is a member of the College Music Society, the American Musicological Society, and the American Society for Jewish Music.

Mrs. Niren received her Bachelor of Music Degree in Composition with a concentration in piano from Indiana University in Bloomington where her principal teachers were Harvey Sollberger in composition and Thomas Linde in piano. She has a masters degree in music theory from Northwestern and she is pursuing her Ph.D. in musicology. In 1992, Mrs. Niren won a University of Louisville Fellowship to pursue her studies full-time. In addition to her duties at IU Southeast, she serves as the Music Director at Temple Shalom in Louisville.
