IU Southeast Ensembles Mission Statement
The mission of the performing ensembles at Indiana University Southeast is consistent with that University in its objectives. All Indiana University performing ensembles are open to students, faculty, staff, and community members. While each ensemble has different audition and acceptance policies, all ensembles are committed to the following goals:
Creating an educational environment wherein Indiana University music students are encouraged and enabled to develop the performing skills and experiences consistent with an undergraduate education in music and which reflect the goals and scope of an undergraduate degree in music
Providing opportunities for faculty, staff and members of the community to participate in music through ensemble participation
Achieving the highest musical standards in rehearsal and performance
Selecting and performing the highest quality repertoire available for each ensemble
Enriching the cultural climate of the region by offering regular concerts on our
campus and in the community at large which are open to the public
Since IU Southeast is first and foremost an institution for learning, we have a responsibility to provide a quality educational program for our student population. By the time a student graduates from Indiana University Southeast, he/she must have obtained sufficient experience in ensemble performance at an advanced level. Because of this, the directors of ensembles at Indiana University Southeast are obligated to place active students in leadership roles that will provide them with this very important aspect of their education. Although open to all students, faculty, staff and community, the criteria for and decisions on acceptance, chair assignments, and solo opportunities are to be made at the discretion of the director in light of the above mission statement.
