In order to major in Music at IU Southeast, you must:
- Apply for admission to IU Southeast
- Complete a Music Department Audition Application
- Perform an audition
- Complete the Music Theory Placement Exam
Auditions
Admission to the Music Department is by audition only. An audition/interview is required of all students wishing to pursue the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree.

INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
The Music Department at Indiana University Southeast, one of the eight branch campuses of Indiana University, offers one of the most musically intensive Bachelor of Arts degrees in the region while maintaining small class sizes and personal attention.
Students engage in a rigorous program that combines all aspects of artistic and academic study, ranging from solo performance to music theory, music history and music technology. A full array of general academic subjects traditional to the liberal arts provides skills and knowledge in written and oral communication and provides an excellent academic foundation for personal development and professional flexibility.

ENSEMBLES
Not all students focus on solo performance during their studies. However, opportunities to make music with other musicians in larger ensembles are vital to fostering student learning in music and enriching the artistic life of the community at large. IU Southeast offers several major ensembles to students and community musicians.

FACILITIES
The Music Department is housed in the new $12 million Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center. In addition to benefiting the educational mission of the University, the Center provides facilities for cultural and civic activities for people in Southern Indiana and the entire Greater Louisville region. Along with the performance venues, the Ogle Center contains an art gallery, classrooms, practice rooms, teaching studios, an electronic music studio, and a music listening/computer instruction lab. Performances take place in three performing spaces in the Ogle Center: the Richard K. Stem Concert Hall, Recital Hall, and the Robinson Theater.

FACULTY
The music faculty at Indiana University Southeast is comprised of nationally recognized scholars, composers and performers with advanced degrees from some of the most prestigious music schools in the country. Our applied music instructors are professional performers, many of which are members of the Louisville Orchestra.

AUDITION INFORMATION
Admission to the Music program at IU Southeast is by audition only. Students applying for admission to the Music Department to pursue a B.A. in Music degree must attend one of the Music Department’s Audition Days. Students who cannot attend one of the scheduled audition dates should contact the Music Department to make other arrangements.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR NON-MUSIC MAJORS
Students are not required to major in music in order to take advantage of the many music opportunities at IU Southeast.
Ensembles
All students are eligible to participate in one of the university's performing ensembles - with or without credit. For information on joining the IU Southeast Orchestra, Concert Band, Commonwealth Brass Band, Concert Choir, Community Chorus, or Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop, please visit the Ensembles page.
Applied Music(Private) Lessons
All students at IU Southeast are allowed to enroll in applied music lessons in the Music Department on any instrument or voice, whether they are a beginner or play/sing at a more advanced level. For information on registering for applied music lessons, contact the Music Department at 812.941.2655.
Music Classes
Most lower level music courses are open to all IU Southeast students, regardless of the student's major. Some upper level music courses are also open to non-majors, depending on the particular course and the student's background and level of experience.
