The Minor in Philosophy

Students completing an IU Southeast degree and not majoring in philosophy may concurrently complete a minor in philosophy by taking fifteen credit hours in philosophy courses, including three credit hours in logic and nine credit hours at the 200 level or above. Minoring in philosophy offers students working toward another major the opportunity to expand their studies and inform their work in other disciplines. It gives students a chance to address some of the ethical questions that will undoubtedly arise within the context of their chosen field, as well as to gain a stronger grasp of the philosophical and historical elements that contribute to the foundations of their discipline. In addition, minoring in philosophy helps the student to sharpen his or her analytic skills and to achieve a greater cultural awareness.

Courses applying to the major will not count toward the minor. Students must obtain a 2.0 GPA for all courses counting toward the philosophy minor and may not include any course with a grade below C-. The minor will be indicated upon conferral of the bachelor's degree.

Students wishing to pursue a minor in philosophy should make application to the School of Arts and Letters.
