Placement Testing

It's required!

All new students are required to take writing, math, and modern language placement tests. Your scores will help us place you into the correct English, math, and foreign language courses. Tests are administered in University Center South, Room 203. No appointment is necessary, and no fee is required.

You can start your placement tests anytime between the hours of 9am - 4pm, Monday-Friday.  For special situations, like Saturday test sessions or after-hours testing, or if you live far from IU Southeast, please call us at (812) 941-2312 to discuss options for placement testing. Plan to spend about one hour on campus.

Make sure you have your 10-digit University ID Number that is found on your Certificate of Admission letter and a picture ID (driver's license, high school picture ID, or passport).

Scores: Get your results at your advising session.

You'll receive your test results when you meet with your advisor at your Orientation session. That's why you MUST complete your placement test at least one week before your Orientation session.

Parking and weather: Be in the know.

If you can, park in the central parking lot. It's closest to University Center. You'll need a parking permit. Buy one for $1 at the vending machines near the campus entrances. See the campus map for a look at our parking lots and buildings. Of course, tests are only administered when the campus is open. If the campus is closed for any reason, including bad weather, tests will not be given. Closings will be announced on all the local TV stations, or you can call (812) 941-2567 for closing details.
