Advising

Welcome to Advising in the School of Social Sciences

You are strongly encouraged to consult regularly with an adviser.  Advisers review academic requirements, discuss prospective courses, and consider how those courses fit into your overall academic plan. They can also discuss the relationship between academic plans and prospective careers. They can also provide information about internships, graduate school, employment opportunities in your field, as well as offer other valuable advice.

Dana Gohmann is the Professional Academic Adviser for the School of Social Sciences.  She advises new students and transfer students students through the sophomore year.

If you are:

  • An IUS student who has just declared a major in the School of Social Sciences, contact the Academic Success Center to request that they transfers your file to the School of Social Sciences
  • An IUS student transferring from another major outside the School of Social Sciences, contact your current school  to request that they send your file to the School of Social Sciences (Crestview 140).
  • A transfer student from another university, contact the Admissions Office to request that they send your file to the School of Social Sciences.
  • After your have had your files transfered to Social Sciences, you may make an appointment with Ms. Gohmann by calling the School of Social Sciences office at 812-941-2391.

In most disciplines, when you reach your junior year (56 hours) you may be eligible to see a full-time faculty member in your discipline for advising. Please conatact the School of Social Sciences at 812-941-2391 for more information or if you have any questions about advising.
