Ruth Garvey-Nix

Dr. Garvey-Nix came to Indiana University Southeast in December 2002 as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. In her position, Dr. Garvey-Nix serves the campus and students as the chief student advocate. She has a strong commitment to a holistic educational approach to student development through co-curricular opportunities. As Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, she ensures that each student is provided with opportunities to develop as a whole, well-rounded person, and fosters a positive learning community through student participation in policy decisions, university committees, the judicial process, and equitable treatment for all students.

Student Affairs at IU Southeast encompasses the areas of admissions, financial aid, orientation, campus life, residence life and housing, career services and internships, mentoring program, personal counseling services, the children's center, athletics and intramurals, volunteer programs, and non-traditional student programs.

Recent Accomplishments

In 2007, Dr. Garvey-Nix received an award from the Non-Traditional Student Union for her outstanding support and lasting contribution to IU Southeast student groups. 

In 2004, she received the Outstanding Service Award for her contributions and commitment to student life at IU Southeast. She is active in the student affairs profession as a member of several professional organizations and has served as President of Student Affairs professional associations for two states.

Education

Dr. Garvey-Nix earned a doctor of philosophy degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg in 1991 and has worked in the field of Student Affairs for the past 26 years. She earned her master of education degree in College Student Personnel and Counseling from Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey) and her bachelor of science in education degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
