Drugs & Alcohol

Federal law, Indiana state law, and University regulations prohibit the use, possession, and/or distribution of narcotics or dangerous drugs without a valid prescription. Use, possession, and/or distribution of all forms of alcoholic beverages is also prohibited in and on all University property. Violators of these policies are subject to the provisions of applicable federal and state laws as well as University disciplinary actions.

The 1998 Amendments to the Higher Education Act of 1965 require suspension of financial aid eligibility for students who have been convicted of any offense under any federal or state law involving the possession or sale of a controlled substance. The ineligibility period will be determined based upon whether the conviction was for possession or sale and if it was the first, second, or third offense. Ineligibility periods begin from the date of the conviction. In certain circumstances, participation in a rehabilitation program may re-instate eligibility. Final guidelines regarding this legislation are currently being developed. Current and prospective students affected by this title are asked to discuss their circumstances with the Director of Financial Aid.
