  1. Why do I need an IUS ID card?
    • FIRST, your ID card doubles as your library card at the IUS library and all other IU libraries across the state.
    • It will also help you check out books at the U of L library across the river.
    • On campus, your ID card must be shown when using IUS athletic facilities, buying software in the bookstore, or purchasing a student discount ticket at the Ogle Center.
    • Off campus, many places offer student discounts, such as Body Mastery (a nearby workout facility) and all the theater houses across the river, such as Actor's and Palace Theaters and the Kentucky Center for the Arts. If you hear of more student discounts, let us know.
    • Ever need a valid photo ID other than your driver's license?
      Now you have one!

  3. When and where can I get a card made?
    • During registration for Fall and Spring classes the ID card station will be set up in the Bookstore Lounge.
    • After that, go to the police station in UC Hallway (on the way to Subway).
    • Hours will gradually decline after registration to selected hours during the day (12 noon to 4 pm, Monday-Thursday).
    • If you aren't on campus during those hours, just call the police at 941-2400 and set up a time. Someone is there evenings and weekends, but you would be better off calling to let them know when you are coming in.

  5. Does it cost anything?
    NO!!!
At least, your first card is free. After that, a $10.00 fee is required to get a replacement, which goes toward supplies and equipment for the ID card system. So if you had a bad hair day, remember, it's still probably better than your driver's license photo!
  6. Hang on to your card.

  7. Do I need to get a new one every year?
    NO!!!
This card will last for five years or until you graduate, whichever comes first. There is an issue date on the back, but also a number is encoded in the magnetic stripe which tells the card reader whether to activate or deactivate the card. When this becomes necessary, facilities on campus will be able to swipe your card and know if you are an active student, faculty or staff member.

  9. I'm a Purdue student, do I get a card?
    YES!!
    • Your card will function just like everyone else's, but it will have its own design and say "PURDUE PROGRAMS" on it.
    • You can get an IUS student card if you are taking IUS classes.

  11. What if I lose my card or find another?
    • If you lose your card, tell the police department right away. They will check to see if anyone has turned it in.
    • If not, they will deactivate the number in the system and issue you a new card with a new number. You don't even have to pose for a photo again (unless you want to).
    • If you find someone's card, please turn it in to the police.

  13. I'm not a student, faculty or staff member but I still want a library card.
    Do I need an ID?

    No.
The library will continue to issue community borrowing cards just as it has in the past, but you can get a photo card if you want. It will say "GUEST"" on it and will cost $5.00, but it can be used as your library card.

  15. Will I be able to use the card like a credit card?
    Not for awhile, yet.
    • We hope to be able to offer debit card services within a year or two so you can use the card to buy food from Subway or Noble Roman's and campus vending machines, make purchases in the bookstore or at the Ogle Center, and possibly also pay your fees at the Children's Center and for ticketed athletic events.
    • This type of card would have to be "charged up" with funds and would function just like a check card.
    • It would not link to your bank account, but be tied to a separate account for you here on campus.

  17. Can we get cards made with our own backgrounds on them?
Not yet, but we expect to offer this in the future.
