Description
This vacancy is for a Statistical Clerk (Telephone Interviewer) position in the Jeffersonville Contact Center at the National Processing Center (NPC), U.S. Census Bureau located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The Statistical Clerk (Telephone Interviewer), performs telephone interviewing activities for the NPC in connection with the Census Bureau's various surveys/censuses.

Tour of Duty: Intermittent Schedule (less than full time hours) with variable shifts. Statistical Clerks (Telephone Interviewers) are required to work a minimum of 15 hours a week with 5 of those hours worked on the weekend when work is available. Shifts range from Monday through Friday hours between 4:00 p.m. and 12 midnight; Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 12 midnight; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 12 midnight. The typical Telephone Interviewer works mostly evening hours between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. and 5 weekend hours between 9 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Saturday or 11:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Sunday. There may not be hours available every week due to the nature of the work.
Candidate must clear the fingerprint process and initiate the required background investigation prior to selection.

The individual selected for this position will:
Perform telephone interviews for a wide variety of surveys conducted by the Jeffersonville Contact Center.
Receive extensive training on the assigned surveys, interviewing techniques, and computer terminal operations techniques.
Telephone respondents and explain the purpose of the survey or census in order to gain cooperation.
Assure accurate and completed answers to all questions insofar as possible.
Obtain and record the data on a questionnaire or computer.
Conduct ""cold contact"" interviews.
Be required to conduct telephone research activities to obtain current status of address, location of sample person, occupant information, and identification of respondent telephone numbers.
Review information for completeness, edits, or otherwise assists in clerical processing and/or data entry.

Qualifications
Applicants qualify at the grade 4 level if they possess one year of general experience that equips them with the skills needed to perform the job duties. Examples include progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a Statistical Clerk (Telephone Interviewer).

Education Substitution: Successful completion of 2 full years of study above the high school level in an accredited business or technical school, college, or university may be substituted for the required experience.

Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grade GS-4.
