The Indiana University Southeast Writing Project (IUSWP) Summer Institute is designated to extend the vibrant and ongoing professional learning community which the National Writing Project (NWP) has celebrated since 1974. The Program operates using the teachers-teaching-teachers model used by the NWP, which is shown to be the most effective form of professional development.
The IUSWP fosters a culture of teacher learners who rely on social practices and networking with their colleagues to ensure their continued professional growth. All Summer Institute (SI) fellows consist of active classroom teachers or administrators from kindergarten through university level. By the end of the Institute, Fellows will be prepared to serve as leaders in local schools, become Teacher Consultants, and make additional professional contributions to writing

Why should I attend?
For individuals who have completed the Summer Institute Fellowship, the IUSWP offers an Advanced Institute. Individuals who completed SI are then considered Teacher Consultants (TC) and are welcome to attend a four day professional development conference. Attending this conference allows current SI and current TC’s to mingle and work together.
