Academic Probation
What is it?
Academic probation results when an IUS student’s cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0. It serves as a warning for the student that coursework must improve. There are many possible reasons why students face academic difficulty. Some students struggle through a particular class or semester, while others face more severe academic issues. Some common contributing factors include:
- College adjustment issues – including time/self management
- Inadequate study skills
- Lack of necessary motivation
- Personal issues
- Lack of direction/goals
What can I do?
As an Academic Success Center (ASC) student on academic probation, there are many things you can do to help improve your academic standing. Taking an active role to improve your studies and GPA is the first step. All ASC students on probation are required to meet with their ASC advisor for an academic conference. You may set up your conference by calling our office at 941-2243 or by stopping in our office (US 006).
