Student Learning is central to the stated mission of IU Southeast. Assessment of Student Learning is not only a source of evidence for our effectiveness in achieving this part of our mission; it is, more importantly, a process and a tool for improving Student Learning.

Assessment of Student Learning occurs at three interrelated levels:

  • Institutional Assessment: a measure of the institution's overall effectiveness in achieving its educational mission
  • Program Assessment: a process for measuring and improving the effectiveness of meeting student learning goals established for an academic program.
  • Classroom Assessment: a technique an individual instructor applies to improve student learning in his or her classroom based on establishing learning goals and measuring achievement of learning.

Academic Affairs has overall responsibility for program assessment at IU Southeast. The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) is responsible for assistance and support of program assessment. The Academic Assessment Committee has responsibility for oversight and guidance of program assessment at IU Southeast.
