IU
Southeast Men's Tennis
Season Outlook
This season looks to be quite
promising for the IU Southeast Men’s Tennis Team. Returning players Jordan
Hamilton, David Ballage, and Tyler Rigby will be
looked to for leadership, and transfers Collin Gentry and Steve Gogel look to be immediate impact players. Jordan Hamilton
is a senior who has greatly contributed to the program in recent years, and
will be an essential part of the team again this year. Joseph Boesing the top recruit of this year’s freshman class will
make a large impact in both singles and doubles. Boesing
was certainly an amazing local player for Floyd Central, and probably one of
the better players to come out of the area in many years. He has a high USTA
junior rank in Indiana and the Midwest.
Other
freshman to watch will be Adam Denney and Derek Hackney both from Bedford,
Indiana. They will be playing high in the singles and doubles line-ups, so
their development is crucial for a really good team season. Also, freshman John
Bailey of Bullitt East High just outside of Louisville will be making an impact
in the singles and doubles line-up. There will also be a few more additional
local players who will be joining this year’s squad and filling in the injury
and illness gaps. As well as, a few red shirt players who are going to help us
out in the spring season or the next fall Tommy Dunn, Andrew Waiz, Tyler Blessinger, Chris Cruse, and Chris Keown.
This year
could definitely be a break-out year for the men’s tennis team, because the Grenadier’s
are coming off of a conference championship and an unexpected NAIA Region XII
final finish. Also, with the addition of so many talented first year players
this season could take the program up to the highest achievable levels.
