The Office of Campus Life brings the college experience to life at IU Southeast, and Seuth Chaleunphonh is the office’s new Dean. It’s his job to keep the entire Campus Life operation running smoothly and to keep the student body at IU Southeast engaged, entertained and educated beyond the classroom.
Hypnotist Kicks Off SPC Fall Schedule - 09/12/2008
“When I count to 5 you will stand up, say your name, and you will be in a crowd of people where you have forgotten to put on your pants. 5…4…3…2…1. How do you feel?”
“ I feel cold,” says the student as he is pulling down his shirt, as if he is embarrassed because (he thinks) he has forgotten to put on some pants. “I need some pants,” the student whispers to the hypnotist, who runs and gets “some pants”--- a pair of leopard print underwear! The crowd rolls with laughter.
That was the scene at the first Student Program Council event on campus – Kevin the hip hop hypnotist.
This is the second week of school and I am tired. There ought to be a law for having so much fun in college! Settling in to the second week of school, I experienced a great FREE show that highlighted the week. I got to see some people I met last week and saw some new faces. Overall I think there were at least 120 people in the audience. Some people were encouraged by instructors to check out the hypnotist show. I saw big smiles on their faces – and tears rolling down their eyes from so much laughter. What a HIP show.
I am the advisor for the Student Program Council or SPC. Our group is a student-run organization whose primary purpose is to provide social, cultural, educational, and recreational activities for IU Southeast students. We put on events such as OctSOBERfest, Health Fair, and Stress Free Zone. We are also coordinating an MTV voter registration drive this month and looking forward to putting on this year’s community children’s Halloween Party.
Look for our events on the Web site, bulletin boards, and around campus. We love hearing fresh ideas from our students and are always looking for new volunteers. Drop by the Campus Life office in University Center South, room 010 and look for me.
