Take the Challenge…Go for GOLD! - 12/08/2008
Are you a student looking for something to do on campus? Search no further. Campus Life can not only point you in the right direction, but we’ll also reward you for your efforts.
Do I have your attention? Great! Then consider participating in the GOLD (Grenadier Outstanding Leadership Development) Program. The GOLD program is designed to help students track their co-curricular activity, reflect on their leadership experiences, and apply what they’ve learned to help them achieve their educational and professional goals.
Sound good so far? Members of the GOLD program will be connected through an online Oncourse project, where students can store their personal reflections about their leadership activities, track their involvement using the co-curricular achievement record, and communicate with other student leaders about leadership and volunteer opportunities.
I mentioned that we reward participants, right? Those who participate will be recognized at the annual Commitment to Student Life Awards Ceremony held in April. Members of the GOLD program will receive a certificate of completion and a GOLD lapel pin. Not bad!
In addition, members receive personalized e-mail reminders about upcoming LEGACY Leadership workshops and opportunities. LEGACY events that have already taken place this semester included the Student Leadership Conference, Ultimate Money Skills, The Star Activity, Volunteering in College, and What’s Your 5 Year Plan? Upcoming events include:
De-Stress for Success (Nov. 17)
Creating a Culture of Gender Respect (Nov. 19)
Time Management Skills (Jan. 29)
Etiquette Dinner (Feb. 25)
Business Networking Event (Feb. 27)
International Festival (Mar. 3)
Think of all the wonderful ways you can enhance your resume, folks. Just listen to what Katie Warren, a junior majoring in Spanish, had to say about participating in leadership activities… “Speaking at the Leadership Conference was the best thing I could have done to boost my resume. It allowed me the opportunity to present what I’ve learned while here on campus in a semi-professional environment, getting feedback that will help me further develop my presentation skills.”
So now that I’ve convinced you to get involved, visit our leadership programs Web site (http://www.ius.edu/campuslife/leadership/) for more information on some wonderful leadership opportunities.
