BusinessWeek magazine formally announced its 2009 Part-Time MBA Program Rankings in a countdown format on November 5. IU Southeast's MBA program was ranked nationally for a second straight time and moved up nine places since the last ranking in 2007. IU Southeasts MBA was ranked 9th in the nation and 3rd in the Midwest. IU Southeast was the only school in the Greater Louisville area to have achieved a top 10 national ranking.
In addition, the BusinessWeek survey revealed other areas of distinction for IU Southeast including ranking 2nd in the nation in post-MBA outcomes, 3rd in the nation for small classes, and 20th in the nation for student satisfaction. Finally the IU Southeast Part-Time MBA program received the highest possible score of "A+" for teaching quality.
"Although achieving high visibility in rankings is not an explicit goal of our school, we are nonetheless very pleased to be recognized in this manner. This elite ranking among the best business schools in the country is an endorsement of the quality of our faculty and students and attests to the efforts that have been put forth to create a rigorous yet flexible MBA program," said IU Southeast Business School Dean Jay White. "Being recognized as the top-ranked Part-Time Professional MBA program in Indiana and the Kentuckiana region is especially exciting when you consider the attention to detail with which BusinessWeek used in compiling its rankings."
The BusinessWeek rankings are based on three measures of quality. First, a survey measured student satisfaction with their MBA experience. Second, an academic quality score was developed using six equally weighted measures: average GMAT score, average work experience, the percentage of all teachers in the part-time MBA program who are tenured, average class size in core business classes, the number of business electives available to part-time MBA students, and the programs completion rate. Third, post-MBA outcomes were measured by the percentage of survey respondents who said their program was "completely" or somewhat responsible for them achieving their goals.
"These rankings are an outstanding external validation of the quality of an IU Southeast graduate business degree," said Jon Bingham, Director of IU Southeast Graduate Business Programs. "Pursuing an MBA is a major commitment and investment & this ranking is confirmation that that our part-time MBA program meets the needs of busy working professionals while maintaining high academic standards. I strongly encourage anyone that is researching business schools to speak with some of our alumni and current students for first-hand accounts of the quality of our program."
