State Licensing Goal
The Children's Center is applying for a state license which will allow for additional funding and educational opportunities for the center and its users. The process is underway and the center is hoping to receive the license by end of September.
Becoming a state-licensed facility will allow the Children's Center to be used by the University as a site for observation and practicums from students and classes, as well as to apply for additional state and federal funding.
Parents who use the center could also be eligible to receive additional state and federal funding to subsidize daycare and participate in the Child and Adult Food Program for free or reduced rate lunches. As a state-licensed facility, the Children's Center would be able to provide meals for all children rather than asking parents to supply meals.
The upgrade will also encourage separate learning areas for toddler-age and school-age children and require staff leaders to hold a Child Development Associate's Degree or be in the process of earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education.
