Marketing Coordinator
How did you get to your current internship position?
I started off as a Business Advisor Intern for the Southeast ISBDC in August 2012. In this position, I reviewed and revised business plans, completed research for advisors, and completed other tasks for the Regional Director. After getting a year or so of experience and expressing my interest in Marketing, I was promoted to the Marketing Coordinator position.
Describe a typical day in your internship.
I write and send out our newsletter, create press releases, interview clients and write up their success stories, help with setup for events, and create posts for social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
What have you learned through your internship?
I have learned how to present myself in a professional manner. I have learned to be confident and reliable. I have learned so much about marketing and interviewing by getting involved in as much as I can here at the ISBDC.
How has your internship helped you in your career path?
My internship has taught me so much, and introduced me to many business people in the area. Through my role as Marketing Coordinator for the Southeast ISBDC, I am getting experience and practice that relates to my major and future career goals.
What advice do you have for other students who are looking for a job or internship?
CareerLink is a great tool for finding internships and jobs. I suggest really perfecting and updating your resume and having that, along with references, available to employers. Introducing yourself and making connections is extremely important.
What advice do you have for other students while attending college?
I suggest getting involved on campus and making as many connections as possible. Participating in an internship is a great experience because it give you a chance to make connections and get real world experience.
