From making sure you’re eligible to graduate to requesting accommodations for your guests, find everything you need to prepare for Commencement in our checklist below.
Be sure to complete these tasks early so you don’t miss any deadlines.
Our trained Commencement organizers provide services to graduates and guests who need accommodations. IU Southeast will also have an ALS interpreter at the ceremony, and closed captioning will be provided both on the screens and live streams.

One student is selected to speak during the Commencement ceremony. Students who have a history of involvement both in the classroom and out in the community and who have maintained a 3.0 GPA are encouraged to apply. This student will address their peers during the commencement ceremony. A selection committee will review applications, interview candidates (if needed), and determine the final selection to recommend to the chancellor.
The selected speaker will give a 3–5 minute speech. Once the student speaker is chosen, IU Southeast will provide assistance with speech development and editing.
Applications to become the 2024 Student Commencement Speaker are now being accepted. Applications and supporting materials are due Friday, March 8, 2024.
