Message from the Dean
Dear Student:
I am thrilled to hear of your interest in the School of Nursing at IU Southeast.
We are one of the top schools of nursing in the region. Many factors contribute
to our success, including the creativity, energy, and commitment of faculty, staff,
students and alumni.
Admission to the school of nursing is a competitive process. Students are
admitted based on a combination of your GPA and your reading comprehension
score on the admission test you will take when you apply to the program.
Research has shown that the most successful nursing students are the ones with
strong reading comprehension skills. As you complete your freshman general
education courses be sure and stay in contact with your pre-nursing advisor,
Sarah Gierke, for information regarding the application process.
As new healthcare models continue to emerge in the 21st century, nurses
continue to play a prominent role in shaping and delivering that care – which is
why we remain steadfast in our mission to prepare nurses to make a difference
in the lives of individuals, families, and communities. Our baccalaureate
level courses will prepare you to address the health needs of the population.
Technological advances allow our faculty to simulate real-world situations in our
laboratories and classrooms and provide additional clinical experiences that will
impact high quality patient care.
Bridging education and clinical applications is increasingly crucial to the future
of nursing. Educating excellent nurses is what we do. Strong academic service
partnerships are a hallmark of every great nursing program, and IU Southeast
is no exception. You will experience many educational benefits from our diverse
clinical affiliations.
Preparing future nurses is an exhilarating challenge. We are excited about the
opportunities for our profession in the future and continue to strive for excellence
in learning, discovery, and engagement. Our outstanding alumni are proof that
an IU Southeast nursing degree not only prepares graduates but sets them apart
from others. I am proud of our graduates and the impact they are making.
