The Diversity Coalition
Diversity has become a core value for higher education and a guiding principle of IU Southeast in its pursuit of excellence. Under the guidance of its strategic goals and objectives, IU Southeast aims at developing an effective coordination mechanism by capitalizing on its rich diversity resources throughout the campus. The proposed mechanism will encompass different levels and all lines of participation to form an alliance and coalition for diversity.
Specifically, there will be four major layers in this extensive and inclusive alliance/coalition:
- Leadership: the Chancellor and the Vice Chancellors, to provide direction and strategic decision;
- Diversity Advisory Council: a broadly representative think-tank, composed of selected volunteers committed to a comprehensive concept of diversity and able to bring experience, expertise or insights to bear on campus-wide planning on diversity initiatives;
- Diversity Coordinators: Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Equity/Affirmative Action personnel, to function as a bridge between the central leadership and various task forces and participants, with the responsibility to help facilitate communication and coordination on diversity-related projects and activities; and
- Diversity Task Forces: various action teams on campus working with other individuals and interest groups to implement IU Southeast strategic goals and school/division/unit diversity plans and reach out to the community.
IU Southeast envisions that there will be many moving parts with various roles and functions to realize its commitment to diversity to the fullest extent with good and constant guidance, thinking, action, and coordination. Various communication channels will be utilized, including e-newsletters and websites, for promoting diversity and informing the community.
