Attention Graduate Students: Changes have been made to the Master of Science in Education Degree Program. Please see attached Memo.
The School of Education at Indiana University Southeast offers Master of Science degrees in Education with majors in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Counseling. In addition, the School offers graduate certification programs in Reading, certain areas of Special Education, Kindergarten, Gifted and Talented, Computer, Junior High/Middle School education, and Educational Leadership (principal's certification for Indiana and Kentucky, K-12). We also offer a substantial number of graduate-level courses applicable to license renewal, "master's/rank plus" programs, or certification programs.
Note: Our graduate programs are designed for certified teachers and do not lead to initial teacher certification. See the appropriate undergraduate coordinators or the Transition to Teaching website for information on earning initial teacher certification.
Students planning to pursue IU Southeast master's programs or graduate-level certification programs are encouraged to carefully follow the program requirements outlined in the Bulletin. Visiting candidates pursuing other degrees or programs should follow the counsel of the appropriate dean or program adviser at the "home" institution.
Persons seeking adminssion to most IU Southeast School of Education graduate programs must attend a required group advising session. (A list of these programs and schedules for their advising sessions may be seen at http://www.ius.edu/education/GradEdAdvise.cfm.) At the sessions, candidates receive an application packet, directions on how to apply, a program handbook, and a description of program policies and procedures.
Indiana University now has an on-line application for graduate programs that candidates may use, but please note that there may be other necessary documents that are part of the application packet distributed at the advising session. The on-line graduate application for the IU Southeast campus only may be accessed at https://onestart.iu.edu/sisad-prd/p/Guest.do?methodToCall=start&inst=IUSEA&career=GRAD. Submitting an on-line application does not fulfill the requirement to attend a group advising session. ***Please also note that persons who have previously paid an application fee for any IU Southeast graduate program need not pay another application fee. Should one wish to investigate whether this applies, please contact our School's Records Specialist at 812/941.2388.
KENTUCKY EDUCATORS--ATTENTION!!! Educators licensed in Kentucky must submit official transcripts for license renewal and/or rank change applications. BE ADVISED that official IU Southeast transcripts are not available immediately after coursework is completed. Transcripts with grades (but not degree postings) are usually available about one week after the end of each term (Fall, Spring, Summer 1, and Summer 2). (While Intensive 2 courses are finished in late July, grades will not be posted until mid-August, after the end of Summer 2.) Degrees are awarded three times a year: 5/31, 8/31, and 12/31; degrees are posted to official transcripts on or about 15 days later. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that renewal coursework and license applications are completed in a timely manner, allowing time for obtaining necessary official transcripts.
