IU Southeast participating in new Core Academic Skills Assessment pilot test

NEW ALBANY, IN, (August 10, 2012)

IU Southeast will be participating in a pilot test of the new Core Academic Skills Assessment (CASA). This assessment is part of the new Indiana CORE Assessments for Educator Licensure program.

Beginning January 2013, candidates will have the option of achieving passing scores on the CASA as one means for demonstrating basic skills competency needed for admission to Indiana educator preparation program. After December 31, 2012, Praxis I® test will no longer be used to assess basic skills competency of prospective Indiana educators.

We encourage you to participate in the CASA pilot test which is being offered at Indiana educator preparation programs between August 31, 2012 and September 21, 2012.

Why should I participate?

  • For each pilot test form in which you complete the entire test, you can choose to receive either a $50 gift card or a $50 voucher [limit up to $100 in gift cards or $100 in vouchers] to be used toward the cost of a future test.
  • Students can complete up to 2 CASA pilot test forms (the entire test must be completed in order to be eligible), for up to 2 entries into a drawing for a chance to win an Apple® iPad® mobile digital device (ARV $499), or a $100 VISA® gift card.
  • You will have the opportunity to have a first look at the types of items (both multiple-choice questions and writing assignments) included on the new CASA assessment.
  • You will have the chance to provide input into the tests.

How long does it take?

A CASA pilot test form takes 2 hours to complete.

Who is eligible to participate?

Undergraduates enrolled in Indiana colleges and universities Faculty members are NOT eligible to take pilot tests for the Indiana CORE Assessments for Educator Licensure program)
