The IU Southeast School of Education offers interested candidates a program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education. The B.S. in Secondary Education is designed to prepare candidates with their initial teacher licensing in the middle school, junior high, and high school setting in both Indiana and Kentucky.
The Secondary Program is based on standards set forth by the Indiana Office of Educator Licensing and Development, the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC), and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
The Program currently offers four secondary majors:
- Physical (licensing only available for Indiana not Kentucky)
Social Studies(Historical Perspectives, Government & Citzenship, and Geographical Perspectives sections mandatory; the below areas may be added with additional coursework)
Candidates may add other teaching areas to one of the four primary areas. These majors can also be added to a teaching license as a teaching minor. Indiana candidates may also earn a teaching minor in: Spanish, French, German, Physics, Journalism, and Theatre Arts. Kentucky does not grant a license based on teaching minors.
