Admissions Requirements
Prior to Admission to Secondary Teacher Education

Candidates whose files are located in the School of Education are encouraged to see their specific Secondary content advisor early on for advising. Candidates whose files are located in the Academic Success Center (formerly University Division) are advised by staff in the Academic Success Center: 812/941.2243 for an appointment. Candidates may transfer their files to the School of Education when they meet the following requirements: have completed at least 12 credit hours (excluding developmental courses) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, a minimum grade of C (2.00) in ENGW 131, and declared Secondary Education as their major.

Requirements for Admission to Secondary Education

Summative Decision Point 1
To apply for admission to the Secondary Education Program, candidates must meet all of the requirements listed below for Summative Decision Point 1.
- Have taken and passed the three communication courses ENG-W 131, SPCH-S 121, ENG-G 207, and ENG-W 290 or W 300 or W 350, with no grade less than a C (2.00), and a minimum GPA of 2.75.
- Have taken and passed their general education mathematics course (i.e., MATH-M 117, M 118, M 119, M 122, or M 125) with at least a grade of C (2.00).
- Have taken and passed EDUC-F 200 with a grade of no less than a C (2.00), and a minimum GPA of 2.75 in professional education courses.
- Have no grade less than a C (2.00) and an overall GPA of at least 2.75 in the Secondary Education major (i.e., language arts, mathematics, science, or social studies) and in each area that teacher licensing is being sought.
- Have an overall GPA of at least 2.75.
- PRAXIS I (PPST) scores equal to or higher than the Indiana requirements: Reading - 176, Writing - 172. Math - 175, or a composite of at least 527; IN has established other alternative criteria--see your advisor for details.
- Have acceptable recommendations from instructors and field experience teachers in EDUC-F 200.
- Have submitted the completed application forms with a copy of their passing Praxis I tests scores (based on the Indiana standards).
