Teaching Majors
Candidates in the Secondary Education Program must select one of the four majors available in Secondary Education: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science (Chemistry, Life Science, Physical Science and/or Earth-Space Science), or Social Studies (Historical Perspectives and at least two of the following: Economics, Geographical Perspectives, Government and Citizenship, Psychology, and/or Sociology). Advising sheets for each of the majors can be found here. Other advising sheets may apply--see your Secondary program advisor on a regular basis. Candidates may elect to add other licensing areas to one of the four majors.
Teaching Minors
Candidates may add one or more teaching minors to their teaching license in addition to one of the four major areas (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies). Please note: besides School of Education coursework for secondary teaching minors, the University awards academic minors that may not meet state requirements for teaching minors--please check with your Secondary Program advisor. Candidates adding one or more teaching minors must earn at least a 2.00 ("C") in each course and have an overall grade-point-average of 2.75 (on a 4.00 scale) in each minor. Consult with your Secondary academic program advisor. Substitutions must be approved through a Secondary Petition for Exception, available from your Secondary academic advisor.
