A career in special education is an exciting and challenging choice. This site will help you understand what IU Southeast offers and how you can take your first step on the path to a valued career. We offer an undergraduate degree in special education and two license-only (non-degree) options at the graduate level. All three options lead to certification in Mild Intervention (Indiana) or Learning & Behavior Disorders (Kentucky) and focus on the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to become a caring high quality educator who contributes to renewing schools in a multi-cultural society. The rigorous coursework is practitioner oriented coursework. Undergraduates have five semesters of learning experiences in K-12 classrooms. If you do not find the answers you need within this site or on other pages in the School of Education site, please contact: Dr. Cathy Shea Attention: Education Candidates Seeking Kentucky LicensureThe Kentucky EPSB is considering a regulation that will impact licensure applicants who complete their coursework at an out-of-state institution. This regulation will require candidates completing licensure requirements at an out-of-state institution to meet that state's licensure requirements, including testing, before applying for a Kentucky license. Candidates must also meet the Kentucky testing requirements. Candidates should continue to check with the IU Southeast license officers and/or the EPSB website for the date that this regulation will take effect. |
