How do I get an advisor?
Once we have your name and records on file, you will be assigned an
advisor and will be notified by mail by the Arts and Letters staff.
Your Fine Arts advisor will be one of our full time Fine Arts faculty
members. Advisors are trained to provide students with accurate and
up-to-date information regarding the BA degree requirements and Fine
Arts concentrations. Fine Arts students are expected to consult regularly
with their advisor.

What are Sophomore and Junior level reviews?
Sophomore Review
After each student completes three of the required
200-level sequence of studio courses, the entire studio fine arts faculty
will conduct a review of the student's work. The faculty will review
a portfolio that includes examples of work from foundations and the
200-level. Students will not be present for the review. A few weeks
after the review has been completed, the student will be provided with
a program assessment, including recommendations for continued study
and suggestions for discipline concentrations.
In addition, students transferring into the program who have had two-years
of coursework as a fine arts major at another college or university
also must have a Sophomore review. This also applies to students with
a two-year degree from a junior or community college that want to pursue
the BA in Fine Arts at IU Southeast.
Junior Review
After Fine Arts majors complete their junior level (86+ hours), the
department will conduct an assessment of their progress toward their
senior exhibition and graduation. This will include a review of visual
work in the designated concentration areas, the student’s development
in their work, and the application of their studies to broader professional
goals.
What are Introductory and Senior Art Theory?
Freshman Fine Arts majors must enroll in A201 (Introductory Art Theory)
during their enrollment in foundations (F100, F101, and F102). This
course is designed to introduce beginning students to contemporary theories,
terminology, and media used in the fine arts. Senior Art Theory emphasizes
the study of art theory and ideas as it relates to the student's own
creative work.
