Faculty Work: Anne Allen

My name is Anne Allen and I teach Art History for the Fine Arts Department. My undergraduate degree from the University of California, San Diego is in the field of Biology. I received my MA from San Diego State University in Art History with concentrations in the Pacific, Native American art, and the Baroque. My master's thesis was on the bark cloth (tapa) of the islands of Tonga and Samoa. I pursued further graduate study at Columbia University in New York City. There I specialized again in Pacific island and Native American art. I also focused on the art of Meso America and the Northern Renaissance in Europe. My dissertation concerns the vernacular or village architecture of the Samoan islands. I began at IUS in 1994 and currently teach courses in both Western and native arts.
