Achievements

August 12th, 2010 - Chris Bailey's and Alissa Burger's essays were both accepted and published in the 2010 edition of the IU Southeast Undergraduate Research Journal. Alissa's essay is entitled "Women in the Soviet Gulag: Surviving 1930-1953" and Chris' essay is entitled "Release and Rehabilitation: the Political Dimensions of Returning from the Gulags, 1935-1963." Alissa also presented her essay last semester at the gender studies conference.

Monday, September 20, 2010 - Professor James M. Beeby will deliver a talk, "'Send a Boat': The Great Flood of 1937 in Louisville: Some Initial Findings and Interpretations." This program will take place in the Louisville Portland Museum, 2308 Portland Avenue, at 5 p.m. Thanks to the Portland Museum, videos of some original 1937 newsreels will be available for viewing before and after Professor Beeby’s presentation. Light refreshments will be served. We hope you will be able to attend this program and that you will invite friends. There is no charge for this program, but we ask that you contact Linda Klein, Secretary of the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Kentuckiana, to make reservations so that we can provide seating and refreshments accordingly.
