ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in organic chemistry to start August 2014.  The Chemistry program is certified by the American Chemical Society.

Ph.D. in organic chemistry is required; postdoctoral research and teaching experiences are desirable. The successful applicant must have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at undergraduate level and a willingness to teach at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum.  Nationally competitive salary is provided and funds to assist in starting research program will be available. The successful applicant is expected to pursue, establish and maintain an active and productive research program, with the involvement of undergraduate students. With release time for research the standard teaching responsibility is three classes or equivalent per semester.  Teaching responsibilities may include but are not limited to 300-level organic chemistry courses and laboratories.  Service to the university, such as participation in committees and tasks, is also required.

IU Southeast is one of eight degree-granting campuses of Indiana University and is located minutes from downtown Louisville, Kentucky.  The area is known for cultural, sports and recreational activities and has a low cost-of-living index.  IU Southeast has an enrollment of approximately 6800 students and offers bachelors and masters degrees in a wide range of disciplines.  During the past few years, many of the buildings have been renovated, a new library has been constructed, and on-campus housing has been opened.

The Chemistry Department is equipped with renovated laboratory spaces and cutting edge equipment, such as 3 NMRs (600 MHz, 90 MHz, 60 MHz), 2 GC-MS, 2 FT-IR, 2 UV, and various other instrumentation including, AA, polarographer, DS-calorimeter, supercritical fluid extractor, HPLC and other chromatography equipment.  

The program offers both bachelor’s of science and arts degrees in chemistry and biochemistry, and has a very high record of acceptance to graduate and professional schools.
