POSITION: HEAD WOMEN’S TENNIS COACH – Part-Time Hourly Position
DEPARTMENT: Athletics (Division of Student-Affairs)
SALARY: Maximum earnings per fiscal year not to exceed $7,900.00
The head women’s tennis coach is responsible for initiating various aspects of the program, such as recruiting, scheduling opponents, and training/development of student-athletes. The head women’s tennis coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Indiana University, IU Southeast, the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC), and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). This is a part-time hourly position.
The head women’s tennis coach is responsible for the general organization and administration of the women’s tennis program. This position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director.
Bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree in a sports related field is preferred. Candidates should have significant experience in the coaching of tennis at the college level, secondary level or club level. The ability to mentor students in a challenging academic environment is an important qualification, as well as the knowledge and willingness to adhere to the regulations, philosophy, policies, and guidelines as established by the NAIA, KIAC and Indiana University. A valid driver’s license is required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coach, organize, manage, and direct the IU Southeast women’s tennis program.
Establish goals and directions for the program, in cooperation with the Athletic Director.
Provide positive leadership for student-athletes involved in the women’s tennis program. Strive to motivate them in all phases of their lives; academically, athletically and socially.
Provide assistance in budget preparation, and approve all expenditures within the women’s tennis program.
Assist the Athletic Director in coordinating fund raising activities for facility improvements and scholarships.
Monitor academic progress and provide assistance in dealing with academic matters within the women’s tennis program.
Monitor records essential to student-athlete eligibility.
Responsible for women’s tennis student-athlete retention.
Approve requests for women’s tennis equipment and supplies with strict adherence to IU purchasing policy.
Serve as a consultant to the Athletic Director in preparation of the women’s tennis schedule. Responsible for preparing the teams schedule in accordance with the NAIA, KIAC, and university guidelines.
Assist the media relations staff with award nominations and the gathering of statistics. Coach must be willing to accommodate media interview requests and represent the program in a positive light at all times.
Responsible for reporting game scores, computer-generated statistics (DakStats), highlights, etc. to sports info staff in a timely fashion after each athletic competition.
Conduct women’s tennis camps using IU Southeast guidelines.
Coordinate and approve women’s tennis travel arrangements (hotel, food, transportation, etc.). This includes driving to all away matches and neutral sites in University approved vans/transportation.
Responsible for the scouting and recruiting programs and must approve and allocate women’s tennis scholarships.
Coordinate practice planning and workout schedules for student-athletes in preparation for intercollegiate competition.
Coordinate the off-season conditioning and workout program.
Responsible for the opponent scouting program and for ensuring that the team is prepared for elite competition.
Demonstrate willingness to adhere to regulating bodies, such as the NAIA, KIAC, and the entire Indiana University system.
Responsible for proper care, maintenance, and security of women’s tennis facilities, equipment, and supplies. May recommend changes, repairs, or improvements as needed. This includes game-day prep and weekly maintenance during peak usage times.
Educate women’s tennis student-athletes on the conditions set forth in the code of conduct, as established by the department of athletics. Enforce the code of conduct and counsel student-athletes in violation of this code.
Promote harmony, cooperation and total effort in a positive atmosphere of striving for our best. Maintain the general morale of the women’s tennis program.
Encourage and coordinate Champions of Character programing/activities where student-athletes are engaged with the campus and local community.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
