Position: Painter/Carpenter Assistant - Part-time, hourly position 20-25 hrs. per week (no benefits are available with this position)
Department: Physical Plant
This position pays $9.74 hr.
Assist in repairing, remodeling, installing, and painting interiors of buildings. Coordinate with departments a schedule for projects and painting of rooms. Apply applications of paints, varnishes, stains, and lacquers. Remove and install carpet. Tasks include, but not limited to measuring, sawing, sanding, painting and using a hammer, screwdriver and other carpenter tools, painting, and carpet installation.
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Some experience in painting, dry walling, flooring, or carpentry work
Ability to read, understand and follow written and oral instruction
Available to work flexible schedule. Minimum of 4 hours at a time
Ability to work under diverse weather conditions
Proven orientation toward quality service
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and work at heights of 8 feet
Average mobility needed
Ability to use a paint roller, brush, hand tools, pole extensions, paint gun, etc
Ability to safely operate, or learn to operate, hand tools, power tools, saws, etc.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, carry, stoop, reach, bend, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift, push, pull, handle, and use fingers, see, climb ladder, and work in awkward positions
Unpleasant working conditions are: contact with hazardous waste, chemicals, unpleasant odors, loud noise, vibrations, hot and cold temperatures, and dusty conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Apply applications of paint, varnishes, stains, lacquers, using proper safety equipment and regulations.
Assist in wall repair; remodeling of rooms; interior/exterior painting; door hanging and repair; install and finish drywall; install, build, and repair cabinets/furniture; install shelving, hang bulletin boards, white boards, pictures; and other carpentry and building repair tasks.
Coordinate with departments a schedule to select colors and apply paint.
Order, maintain, and store a supply of materials, such as brushes, rollers, drop cloths, cleaning supplies, etc.
Distinguish the proper paint for touch up, prepare surface and apply paint.
Comply with local, state and government safety and air quality regulations.
Assist with the removal and installation of carpet, ceramic tile and cove base.
Perform grounds type work of mowing, trimming, raking, etc.
Assist with snow removal; shovel, plow, brush, etc.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
