Lecturer in Graphic Design - Arts & Letters Print this Job Posting

POSITION:   Graphic Design Lecturer

DEPARTMENT:           Fine Arts/Graphic Design

EFFECTIVE:                August 1, 2010

JOB SUMMARY:
The position of Lecturer for the Graphic Design program will include teaching three courses. Normally, the courses will be (1) P273-Computer Art and Design, an arts related computer course, for art majors and non art majors. (2) P380-Web Design, a course emphasizing interface design, for art majors and non art majors. (3) The third course will be taught in another digital media area. This position will serve as a complement to the print side of design work through a major emphasis on web design and future digital media.

The position also includes the coordination of the Design Center. The Design Center functions as an on-campus design business with student interns from the graphic design program as employees. The work that the Center will design and produce is for on campus clients and nonprofit community businesses. Tasks include, but are not limited to marketing and publicizing the work of the Center, monitoring all aspects of project development, managing workflow to deliver quality product on time, generating statistical and performance reports, budget co-development with head of graphic design, and supervision and hands-on instruction of student interns.  It will also involve initiating and managing meetings and interacting with administrators, deans, faculty, and community professionals.

The position requires a high level of Apple Macintosh computer application skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, Adobe Suite of graphic applications including web, and knowledge of print production), exceptional people skills and an incredible attention to detail.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach three courses a semester and manage the operations of the Design Center.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Masters Degree: MFA in the arts
* Teaching experience, preferably college-level
* Web and print production experience
* Knowledge of various electronic media (i.e. web, computer presentations)  preferred
* Enthusiasm for web and digital multimedia technologies
*  Project management experience
* Excellent writing skills
* Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office XP Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint); Adobe Creative Suite for print and web graphics production.
* Intermediate computer skills including knowledge of computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment; familiarity with network device monitoring,
* Positive, high-energy person willing to continually learn new skills and  technologies; fun and creative approach to work
* Communication skills
* Ability to work with interruptions and on several tasks concurrently
* Ability to work with a wide range of people
* Proven orientation toward quality service
* Average mobility needed: Pushing, pulling, stooping, carrying and sitting

Asessment & Research Assistant - Institutional Research Print this Job Posting

Summary:  Under the direction of the Director of Institutional Research and Assessment, the Assessment and Research Specialist will maintain and enhance IU Southeast’s programs for assessment of student learning and institutional effectiveness.  This position will support the institutional processes through which information about student learning and institutional effectiveness is consistently and routinely gathered and used to improve student learning and guide institutional decisions.

Responsibilities: The following list is not intended to be exhaustive. Responsibilities may change as assessment needs evolve across the institution.

 Assist academic schools/departments in the development and operation of their assessment programs.  This includes working directly with unit personnel to support data gathering, centralized storage, analysis, and summary feedback in a manner that is efficient, timely and integrated into the campus assessment process.
 Work with the General Education Committee to support the assessment of student learning in general education.
 Work with the Academic Assessment Committee to develop and conduct assessment workshops and training.
 Create and process forms and materials used for assessment.
 Maintain the assessment website.
 Support a routine survey cycle of entering students, continuing students, graduating seniors, and alumni, which includes the preparation of specialized reports for disciplines and schools based upon collected survey responses.
 Support ad hoc surveys for program and institutional assessment.
 Perform other types of institutional analysis related to student learning, student demographics, and outcomes.
 Work with the Director and other staff to provide institutional data to campus members in a responsible and timely manner.
 Train and supervise hourly data analysis assistants.

Qualifications:  Required: Bachelor’s degree in educational psychology, psychology, economics, statistics, or a related field with a quantitative or statistical focus.  Two years of experience in research and/or assessment.  Strong written and oral communications skills and the ability to work collaboratively with people of varied backgrounds.  Demonstrated commitment to quality service.  Preferred: Master’s degree in one of the fields noted above and experience in higher education related to the duties of the position.

Skills: Required: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Access. Strongly Preferred:
Statistical Software (SAS, SPSS), Web Tools.

Tenure-track Informatics Position for Fall 2010.

Responsibilities: The School of Natural Sciences, Informatics Department is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track Informatics position starting August 2010 at the assistant professor level. 
Required Qualifications:
1. Applicants should have an earned doctorate, with a strong background in computing technology, preferably at the master’s degree level or equivalent.  ABDs who are near completion may be considered.  Demonstrated experience and leadership in one of the Informatics cognates (listed below) is a significant positive factor.
2. Applicants should provide evidence of the ability to teach effectively at undergraduate level, to produce and publish quality scholarship, and to contribute to service activities.  Relevant professional experience is a significant positive factor.
3. The successful candidate must also demonstrate excellence in oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty from varied disciplines.

Preference will be given to candidates who:
• Demonstrate experience and leadership in one of the cognates of the Informatics degree at IU Southeast.  The cognates (disciplines) include: humanities (e.g., digital media), natural sciences (bioinformatics, chemistry, geosciences), and social sciences (criminal justice, journalism, psychology, sociology).
• Demonstrate a strong interest in teaching, and the ability to teach the application of computing technology (software/hardware/COTS) to one of the cognates (above).
• Demonstrate an on-going research program in the area of one of the cognates intersecting with the field of computing technology.
The position will have responsibility for teaching both required and elective undergraduate courses in Informatics, including a capstone sequence for seniors that includes projects that apply computing to a specific problem domain (see: http://www.informatics.ius.edu/ for a complete list of courses).  A normal teaching load with research release is nine (9) hours per semester.  Scholarly activity and research output are expected.  Teaching, scholarship and service excellence are required for promotion and tenure.  Salaries are competitive.
